Learning Target 8.3

Evaluate the development and expansion of presidential power

Each President has made their own contribution to expand presidential powers. For example, George Washington took part in national affairs and as chief executive of a strong national government. The New Deal, created by Franklin D. Roosevelt was a "Relief, Recovery, Reform" program to bring the United States out of the Great Depression. Another great example is from our first president, George Washington. HE began the practice of regular meetings with his advisers(the cabinet system). Check out this website on the Cabinet System

But, we cannot leave out the women, of course!

Martha Washington, the first lady, assisted George as informal advisers while making other, more public, and significant contributions to the American society. Edith Wilson, Woodrow Wilson's wife, became Woodrow's surrogate and decided whom and what the stricken president saw. She was "Acting First Man."
Us ladies should really check out this!
